Election Statement
Colleagues, it is important to know one’s personal values because they are our guiding principles. Values help analyze the past, live in the present, and prepare for the future. As we have different aspirations, we need different type leaders. Building a strong, qualified slate of officers is vital to the success of AORN. Nominees must have expertise and knowledge of AORN and its operations and come from diverse backgrounds. If elected to your Nominating Committee I will value differences and diversity in all of its forms. Nurses are critical members, especially during the last few years when delivering high-quality, comprehensive health care has been challenging.
I have been a member of AORN 18 years and attended 15 Expos. During that time, I’ve been actively involved on a local and national level and had the opportunity to meet members and discuss their perspective and goals. AORN has developed a strategic direction that is our organization’s roadmap. With that strategic direction, AORN knows what its objectives are, how they will be accomplished, what resources are required. Your leaders have primary responsibility for implementing the chosen strategy.
Evaluating a candidate is a daunting task. Indeed, judging different individuals on such a multifaceted and nuanced capability as leadership must include integrity, vision, judgment, passion, courage, empathy, emotional intelligence as well as geographical diversity. I will select candidates who are visionary and inspire others to imagine a better future and work hard to achieve it. I ask for your support to achieve this.
