Election Statement

Modern health care continues to challenge our perioperative practice and the well-being of patient-centered care. As the beacon of perioperative excellence, AORN’s leadership must not lose sight of the member’s voice and continue addressing challenges impacting the profession of today and tomorrow, including improving clinical efficiency and outcomes, staff retention, resource management, and competency validation for the nurse’s evolving workforce demands.

Our association continues to move forward with committed leaders in the Boardroom from diverse backgrounds focused on global and clinical innovation. As a first-generation Taiwanese American male perioperative nurse, my nontraditional route to the OR provides me with a unique bedside perspective in interdisciplinary collaboration from an ASC preop/PACU, to circulator, to physician liaison, to academic surgical nurse practitioner and first assist. I advocated for increasing representation on the national ballot as the immediate past-chair of AORN’s Nominating Committee. I continue to represent perioperative nurses in advanced practice internationally and will continue to represent the voice of our multilevel membership in the Boardroom. I will explore and address the multigenerational challenges impacting membership engagement.

We must understand our profession’s past trials and successes as an association that values the member’s contributions and knowledge as we continue to move forward. Our collaboration with corporate and international partners empowers nurses to thrive as we continue looking at opportunities in clinical innovation that improve patient safety through global member engagement.

Our AORN Board should represent our diverse membership, and I am ready to serve our association representing YOU on AORN’s Board of Directors.
