Election Statement

Perioperative nursing rotations are important for imprinting a desire to work in the OR. Additionally, perioperative leaders are generally promoted from the ranks of staff nurses. However, we are experiencing a shortage of both staff nurses and leaders in the OR. It is imperative we have perioperative nurses and leaders who understand the specialty of perioperative nursing to ensure safe patient care. AORN provides evidence-based, best practices to provide safe surgery for patients, no matter the setting in which procedures take place. The business of researching best practices, disseminating those practices, and collaborating with other health care disciplines occurs because we have an association founded for this sole purpose. The leadership and Board are charged with managing the affairs of the Association and strategically planning for ongoing changes in the health care and perioperative environment.

I possess a desire to serve our association and members by my experience of strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. My many years of perioperative experiences as a staff nurse and leader will help me to support the business and mission of AORN. I am running for a seat on the AORN Board of Directors to advocate for the safety of our patients, the safety of our members, and for the mission of AORN. We can only reach our goals if we have perioperative nurses in our ORs and procedural areas. I look forward to serving you and together we can continue to provide safe and optimal care for our patients.
