Election Statement
Perioperative nurses face many unprecedented challenges: staffing gaps, increased demand for OR efficiency, lack of surgical supplies, maneuvering computer software upgrades, orienting new employees and embracing continued competencies in new technology (ie, robotics and artificial intelligence). Perioperative nurses must keep an open mind to prepare for the changing world with as much knowledge as possible. They should be in the design and decision-making seat with innovative technology that helps workflow and improves patient safety. Involvement, training and education will move our members forward with new innovations.
AORN members expect and deserve the most qualified candidate for President-elect. I have 37 years of perioperative nursing experience and my career path includes nurses’ aide, surgical technologist, circulating nurse, core preceptor, charge, Director Perioperative Services and my present position of Director of Nursing Education PeriOperative Service. Each role prepared and advanced me to grow professionally to serve our surgical patients. The Director of Perioperative Services positioned me to plan, direct and defend surgical nursing positions, justify capital equipment and secure inaccessible supplies. Developing and implementing strategic goals and objectives while offering high-quality patient care services has always been my priority.
My present position of Director of Nursing Education allows me to utilize evidence-based programs to strengthen our future multigenerational workforce. Nurses want resources at their fingertips within seconds of inquiry. They want to be involved but require balanced personal time. The perioperative nurse is AORN’s core customer, and we must always value the nurses’ perspectives.
I am honored to have served on the AORN Nominating Committee and presently on the AORN Board of Directors. The Board of Director position is responsible for the strategic vision and financial sustainability for the Association that influences perioperative nursing practice across the globe. Strategic review and input of finances, membership, growth, industry, technology, social and human capital are reviewed comprehensively to ensure all aspects of AORN’s strategic goals are prepared for future challenges. My active involvement in AORN governance has been instrumental in preparing me for the role as President-elect.
As President-elect, you can count on me to apply my clinical and academic experience to represent perioperative nurses legislatively and administratively in the Boardroom to promote our profession. I am approachable and will always find time for you to share your concerns and celebrate your accomplishments. My name is David Reinhart and I would appreciate your vote!
