Cassendra Munro, PhD, RN, CNOR

Award for Excellence

Cassendra A. Munro, PhD, RN, CNOR, has been a perioperative nurse for over 26 years and a member of AORN for over 24 years. Currently, she is a perioperative consultant and nurse scientist at Stanford Health Care, Office of Research, in Palo Alto, CA. She earned a nursing degree from Quinnipiac College in Hamden, CT, a business degree from Redlands University in Redlands, CA, and a master’s degree in nursing education from Mount Saint Mary's College in Los Angeles, CA, and she has a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA. Dr. Munro has over 20 years of leadership in nursing and 17 years of clinical research as primary investigator. She is the creator of the Munro Pressure Injury Risk Assessment Scale for Perioperative Patients (Munro Scale) and the CMUNRO SCALE curriculum. Cassendra has served in the roles of qualified expert witness, registered nurse first assistant, professional education consultant, and mentor to emerging nursing professionals. In nursing administration, Cassendra has overseen a Magnet recognition program and care experience. She is a member of AORN’s Research Committee, and the AORN liaison and chair of the Collaborating Organization Council for the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel.
