Election Statement

As a nurse manager in a large hospital, I have learned that perioperative nurses are flexible, passionate and resilient. We still have challenges with the nursing shortage and supply chain and opportunities to improve our practice. In order for AORN to be successful in these areas, the BOD needs diverse ideas, suggestions, and criticism. Communication is critical and begins with listening to the members’ perspective in a thoughtful and respectful manner. I want to continue to build trusting relationships at the local, state, and national levels so I can bring the voice of the members to the table. I also love working with colleagues of different backgrounds bringing forward new concepts and thinking outside the box to see how we can make it work.

Leading the strategic direction of the Association and maintaining good financial stewardship are key goals of the BOD. We need leaders who are going to challenge the status quo when needed and speak up even during difficult conversations. I will ask questions, seek clarity, and play devil’s advocate to ensure all viewpoints have been discussed leading to sound decisions.

As a member of the AORN Board of Directors, I will embrace challenges as opportunities to build a stronger profession so all perioperative nurses and those in nursing school striving to join us, like my daughter, can practice safe and compassionate care. I am honored to be nominated to serve you, the members, in this role.
