AORN’S Perioperative Explications for the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements

The ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements, updated in 2015, establishes the ethical standard for the profession and provides a guide for nurses to use in ethical analysis and decision making. The Code is composed of nine provisions, with each provision further subdivided into interpretive statements. AORN has provided perioperative explications for each interpretive statement. These explications are illustrated with perioperative examples to help perioperative nurses relate the ANA Code of Ethics to their own areas of practice.
