Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Management
With over 13 years of perioperative experience, Rachel Edens served in the Nurse Manager role of the Operating Room at Baton Rouge General Hospital. During her tenure she guided a team of 120 and oversaw the daily clinical operations of 15 OR suites. She was recruited for this role over a year ago due to her knowledge base and ability to see the big picture. Her goals are to create an environment of trust and collaboration that promote optimal patient outcomes and provide opportunities for her teammates to do what they do best. She listens to their concerns and develops strategies to address them. Staffing has definitely been a priority. She has recruited team members to help actively educate, promote, and advocate for perioperative roles in nursing schools, high schools, and by partnering with surgical technology programs. This has resulted in the 8 novice nurses completing their orientation in her first year. As a manager, Rachel has made a difference by striving to foster an environment of growth and trust within a department that helps thousands of patients through their perioperative journey each year.
