Outstanding Achievement in Mentorship - Perioperative
I began my career as a perioperative nurse in Flint, Michigan. As a diploma nurse, I was encouraged to never stop learning. I moved to Oregon and began my journey to BSN then MN/FNP. I knew I could make a difference. Enriching my profession is a priority with involvement at the local, state and national level. I continue to serve my chapter on the BOD, I founded our state council, and served nationally on many committees and was elected to the NLDC. I continue to serve AORN as chair of the CEAC committee. I published in the AORN journal, presented at Expo and locally; and as a mentor in my work setting on the EBP committee with staff nurses was rewarding. Serving on OSCPN and Columbia River Chapter has been rewarding as I have mentored many colleagues. Helping new nurses looking for perioperative protocols, helping our department focus to stop wrong site surgery, testifying at the state legislature on surgical smoke, helping pass that bill. Recently I helped one of my girl scouts focus on nursing as she looked at the healthcare field. She is currently attending a 4-year program. But most importantly, I am honored to receive this award.
