Larry L. Asplin, MSN, RN, CSSM(E), CNOR(E), FAORN
Outstanding Volunteer Leadership
Larry Asplin believes that Volunteerism within his surrounding community is important. He has an inherent need to serve others with the training and talents God has provided him. Asplin is active within his church community and shares his perioperative nursing skills with elderly parishioners through completing dressing changes at their homes, pre and postoperative planning, and providing rides to and from church and transportation for physician visits.
Asplin was a founding member of the Minnesota AORN Heartland Chapter 2403 and has been involved with AORN both locally and nationally. As his Chapter President, he successfully chaired a merger with a Minnesota chapter who were contemplating dissolution. He currently serves as the President of the AORN Foundation. Asplin has presented at AORN Expos, Multi-Specialty conferences, and for ASPAN. He has published AORN blogs and has reviewed perioperative textbooks. Asplin has attended two surgical mission trips to Guatemala.
Asplin created Surgery Open House events for over 18-years which brings up to 600 community members annually through ORs highlighting a variety of perioperative careers. The “shadows that we cast” through volunteering are important --- improving the quality of life: mind, body, and soul.
