Kathryn Schroeter, PhD, MA-Bioethics, MS, RN, CNE(Ret), CNOR, FAORN currently works as a Nurse Scientist and Ethicist at Froedtert Hospital - a Level I Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI, where she has also been a perioperative nurse and educator for 23 years.  At the Medical College of Wisconsin, she is an adjunct Assistant Professor at the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities and she serves as an Ethics Consultant member of the Hospital Ethics Committee and the Institutional Review Board. She was an Associate Professor at Marquette University College of Nursing. She has been the Editor of the AORN publication Surgical Services Management and also for the Journal of Trauma Nursing.

She has served as a member and chairperson of the ANA Ethics Advisory Board and was a contributing author and ethics expert panel member for the 2015 and 2025 revisions of the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.  She was the lead author for writing the explications of the 2015 ANA Code of Ethics for perioperative nursing practice and has authored a nursing ethics textbook entitled Practical ethics for nurses and nursing students. She is a member of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, American Nurses Association, Wisconsin Nurses Association, American Society for Bioethics and Humanities and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
