A few months ago, I was reading a book about ikigai. This is a Japanese word; roughly translated, it means “purpose in life.” It is in the beauty of ikigai one can grow, change, and find purpose. Working as a nurse in the OR is challenging and rewarding. Many individuals become nurses for the purpose of helping others. Other individuals choose nursing as a career because of job security. Whatever the reason, one way to increase the feeling of purpose is to find your ikigai, or your "why." This may be illustrated using a word for each letter of the word why: Willing, Honesty, You.
