Celebrating AORN Expo San Antonio with Kindred Spirits

You probably don’t have to try too hard to imagine months, even years, of separateness from your colleagues and friends during a global pandemic. For AORN Global Surgical Conference and Expo attendees, April 1 – 4, 2023 was a chance to fully reconnect with the people who support, educate and inspire the perioperative nursing community.
Just ask Bobbi Jo Grant, BSN, RN, CNOR, perioperative clinical educator: “I plan to take full advantage of all of the opportunities that the Expo has to offer by submersing myself in education, networking and AORN government,” she told us before the 2023 festivities kicked off in San Antonio, Texas this month.
Grant was one of 39 perioperative nursing professionals to be awarded a Professional Education Grant to attend Expo 2023. These professional development grants help nurses maintain competency to ensure safe, high-quality care. And, of course, that’s the cornerstone of what AORN Syntegrity offers the perioperative community: Our electronic health records (EHR) content for operating rooms has been designed by expert informatics nurses to save you time and money, enabling OR nurses to spend more time focused on patient care.
One of the most powerful results to come from awarding these education grants is the proliferation of learning: “I look forward to attending the leadership summit and participating as a delegate for the first time, and returning with new knowledge to share with my surgical unit,” said Barbara Douglas, BSN, RN, CNOR, surgical nurse, a few weeks before the event.
In other words, not only did our grants benefit the 39 nurses who got to attend AORN San Antonio – a few of whom are pictured in the Expo booth photo above; they also benefitted the colleagues of nurses back in the field.
“In the end, you are not just benefiting me, but so many other nurses that can learn from my experiences at the conference,” OR Supervisor Sheila Flores BSN, RN, CNOR, RNFA told us.
That kind of benefit to the perioperative nurses we know – and, in turn, to their patients – is something we champion.
