Ideas That Work: Leave Your Mark on Inventory Management

Does your staff often feel overwhelmed when a big shipment of supplies is dropped off at your facility? All the boxes look the same, making it difficult to determine which shipments have been processed. “In our receiving room, we draw a red line on boxes that have been checked in according to their packing slips and are ready to be put in inventory,” says Carson McCafferty, MSN, RN, CNOR, CSSM, CSRN, clinical director at Eye 35 ASC in Schertz, Texas. The red line stands out so staff can easily stay on top of its accounting and inventory, making sure they have the supplies they need and do not overorder items they already have.
