Ideas That Work: Models of Safety

Put on a PPE Fashion Show

Do you want to educate staff on the key points of donning and doffing safety gear, and boost morale all in one shot? Try hosting a PPE Fashion Show at your facility. Ask your business and administrative staff to put on your facility’s PPE — without any instructions or hints — and then have them model it for your clinical team as though they’re walking the runway of a fashion show. While the “models” make their way down the catwalk, have the clinical staff point out where the PPE isn’t in compliance with current recommended guidelines and best practices. For instance, we often see gown cuffs over glove cuffs, hair that isn’t completely contained in a bouffant or a mask worn under the nose. The PPE Fashion Show is a fun-filled event that educates our clinical team on the essentials of proper surgical safety attire and brings our entire staff closer together.
