Ideas That Work: Job Satisfaction

Give GI Techs a Much-deserved Break

Reprocessing technicians have one of the most important jobs in an endoscopy center. The complicated and detailed task of cleaning and reprocessing multiple scopes day after day in a small area can be tedious and exhausting. To help keep the technicians engaged and refreshed, we implemented a cross-training program. Our techs work in the scope room three days a week and at the front desk or in the procedure room two days a week. In addition to preventing burnout, this program allows the techs to develop additional skills, work with others from different departments and provides us staffing coverage when it’s needed. We also find the job rotation increases techs’ job satisfaction and helps us retain these crucial employees.
