Performance Health Surgery Center is equipped to handle an influx of outpatient orthopedic, spine and total joints cases today — and strategically designed to expand for tomorrow.

Performance Health Surgery Center, created by the ASC design veteran firm Hardaway | Sziabowski Architects, is a 14,700-square-foot, four-OR multispecialty surgery center housed in a 17,000-square-foot medical building on the outskirts of Fort Myers, Fla. Performance offers patients a variety of orthopedic, spine and total joints surgeries that can be done on a same-day basis. The surgery center was strategically designed to include expansion space to add additional ORs, procedure rooms, extra recovery space or an extended care center for overnight stays.

Do look up

The architecture firm noticed the facility site was in the flight path of the nearby regional airport, and the jets soaring above this open tract caused them to focus upward and develop an architecture that looked to the sky. The waiting room is a lofty doubleheight space, but pendant lights are intentionally suspended in the space to help bring the scale down to enhance the feeling of comfort. The soothing color palette also adds to the sense of safety and comfort.

Enhanced efficiency and flow

Of the four ORs in Performance, two are 600 square feet and two are 400 square feet, all equipped with state-of-the-art capital equipment and connection capabilities. The racetrack style pre-op/PACU is designed so all stations can function as pre-op or recovery stations. There are curtained and semi-private bays as well as private recovery rooms to address the varying needs of the patients.
