Focus on What’s Necessary at Year’s End

The holiday season can throw some employees off track, draining their levels of engagement and enthusiasm for their jobs at the end of a long year. As their leader, you should pay attention to the tasks at hand and make sure everyone remains on point and that their attention to detail doesn’t waver — but do so without being a Scrooge. Let them know that while celebrating the holidays is absolutely encouraged, they must maintain focus and accuracy on crucial tasks during this time. Do so without being heavy-handed or micromanaging, but rather by being present, responsive and empathetic, and by encouraging staff, many of whom may be exhausted by years’ end, to focus on work-life balance.

A great leader promotes both celebration and responsibility during the holidays.
