It was fitting that 2020 – when so many perioperative nurses found themselves on the front lines of the COVID-19 response – had been declared the Year of the Nurse. It’s also appropriate that May has been proclaimed National Nurses Month. It’s a time to honor the many ways nurses have helped the nation emerge from the pandemic and recognize their essential role in providing compassionate patient care.
The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) can think of no profession more deserving of a month-long celebration. The professional group of surgical nurses is highlighting a different theme each week to recognize and inspire its members.
