Pegboard for Obese Orthopedic Patients

MorphBoard from Innovative Medical Products
The MorphBoard modular pegboard positioning system is intended to make orthopedic surgery on obese patients easier than ever. It lets OR personnel easily roll patients onto their sides with a simple rotation of its center board module. Along with 2 modular end boards, the MorphBoard features a lightweight center board that can be easily adjusted to accommodate an obese patient's large abdomen. When rotated 90 degrees and combined with the 2 end boards, the 20" wide, 30" long center board "morphs" into a 30" wide section large enough to support most obese patients. In addition to 2 (each) standard sized 8" and 12" pegs, the lateral positioning system includes 2 14" pegs designed for the obese patient. Pegs are offered in either aluminum or composite material; the latter is radiolucent for intraoperative X-rays. The system also comes with 2 clamping plates to hold the pegboard component boards in place and 2 EZ Grip side rail clamps. An IMP slow recovery foam pad or malleable gel pad (or a combination of both) is placed over the plastic pegboard for patient protection. www.innovativemedical.com

V-System Duodenoscope from Olympus
Olympus says it developed the V-System to address the challenges of the ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) procedure and let physicians achieve and maintain access to the biliary system with greater ease. The V-System combines Olympus's latest duodenoscope, the TJF-Q180V, with its V-System devices for ERCP procedures. The TJF-Q180V is the first duodenoscope to feature Narrow Band Imaging and a dual guidewire locking mechanism that securely supports a short guidewire exchange, says the company. The scope also features a larger and higher resolution image than its predecessor. Physicians can choose between long- and short-wire approaches and solo endoscopy versus assistant-aided guidewire manipulation. www.olympusamerica.com/v-system ?

Vacutainer Push Button Blood Collection Set from BD Diagnostics
The in-vein activation safety device in BD's Vacutainer provides split-second protection against needlesticks during blood collection because it virtually eliminates a healthcare worker's exposure to the contaminated needle. Studies show that 99% of reusable tube holders are contaminated with blood. The disposable tube holder ensures that each time blood is collected the holder is clean and without blood on it. www.bd.com
