Duet TRS Reloads from Covidien
Synthetic tissue reinforcement material comes preloaded on Duet TRS Reloads for Covidien's articulating stapler. Other staplers on the market require tissue reinforcement strips to be loaded onto the device using glue or strings, which is time-consuming and can lead to wastage, says the company. Duet TRS Reloads eliminate this step and ensure that the reinforcement material stays intact and flat. www.covidien.com

Parietex ProGrip and Parastomal Meshes from Covidien
The resorbable micro-grips on 1 side of Covidien's Parietex ProGrip mesh promote immediate tissue integration across 100% of the gripping surface. This lightweight, self-gripping mesh is intended to enhance tension-free repair, potentially eliminate the need for sutures and reduce the risk of chronic post-op groin pain. Meanwhile, the Parietex Parastomal mesh for parastomal hernia repair is the first and only available monofilament, polyester mesh of its kind and is designed for both direct and indirect techniques, says Covidien. $320 to $350 for ProGrip, $800 to $1,000 for Parastomal, www.covidien.com

SILS Port from Covidien
This port for single-incision laparoscopic surgery can accommodate up to 3 5mm cannulas or 2 5mm cannulas and 1 12mm cannula for multiple instrument access through a single 20mm incision. Made of a foam-like material, the device conforms to the body to keep the incision site intact and maintain pneumoperitoneum while enabling instrument exchanges, adjustments and maneuverability. www.covidien.com

SorbaFix from Davol
This low-profile, 5mm absorbable mesh fixation system comes preloaded with blunt-tip fasteners in loads of 15 or 30. The 6.7mm-long polylactide fasteners are easy to visualize and are fully absorbed by the body about 12 months after implantation, says Davol. $500 for 15-count load; $750 for 30-count, www.davol.com

Insorb 25 Absorbable Skin Stapler from Incisive Surgical
The next-generation Insorb 25 features staples that are 25% stronger than previous versions and are made of a biocompatible material that's absorbed by the body over a few months. The device's user-friendly design lets a single clinician close an entire incision using just the stapler and standard Adson forceps. $270 per box of 6 staplers, www.insorb.com

Da Vinci Si Surgical System from Intuitive Surgical
The latest addition to Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci product line has several new or improved features, including enhanced high-definition 3-D visualization, digital OR integration capabilities, an updated user interface to ease setup and OR turnover, and a dual-console option for training and collaboration between physicians during minimally invasive surgery. www.intuitivesurgical.com

Rebound HRD V from Minnesota Medical Development
The super-elastic Nitinol frame of this self-expanding surgical mesh lets physicians fold and insert the device through an access port or small incision for the laparoscopic repair of ventral or incisional hernias. Once deployed in the abdomen, the device "rebounds" to its original shape for placement over the hernia defect. Meshes are available in medium, large and extra large sizes. $1,500 to $2,600 for a box of 2 devices, www.2mdinc.com

TriPort Access System from Olympus
This device provides access for up to 3 instruments (sized 5mm to 12mm) at a time through a single incision ranging from 12mm to 25mm. Its self-adjusting retractor system consists of inner and outer rings that grip the incision and create a gas-tight seal to prevent leakage, says Olympus. Because the device rotates on its main axis, surgeons can change the positioning of instruments during surgery without pulling them out of their ports. www.olympussurgical.com

LapVision Biopsy from Pajunk Medical Systems
Through 1 infra-umbilical incision, the LapVision Biopsy gives camera access to all intra-abdominal organs with the option to retrieve biopsy material without using an additional trocar — a minimally invasive, gasless technique Pajunk says can be performed outside the OR without general anesthesia. The LapVision Biopsy set includes a full biopsy system with independent biopsy channel, suction and irrigation systems and a pair of biopsy spoon forceps. $1,400, www.pajunk-usa.com

Pediatric PassPort Trocars from Patton Surgical
These low-profile trocars feature Funnel caps for easy instrument exchanges, threaded cannulas for stability and the exclusive Cannula Anchor for both vertical and lateral security, allowing the cannula to be turned in or out of the abdominal cavity — even when anchored. PassPort 3mm pediatric obturators are blunt-tipped, while the 3mm to 5mm size provides Patton Surgical's dual-shield technology. $55, www.pattonsurgical.com

Biceptor Tenodesis System from Smith & Nephew Endoscopy
Using the Biceptor Tenodesis System, surgeons can treat injuries to the biceps tendon in the shoulder completely arthroscopically. Traditional tenodesis requires the extra step of withdrawing the damaged part of the tendon from the surgical site and using suture to reinforce it before re-inserting and re-attaching it. With the Biceptor, the surgeon drills a tunnel into the humerus and uses the Biosure PK Interference Screw to re-attach the tendon tissue before cutting away the damaged part. $6,297 ($365 for repair kits), www.smith-nephew.com

Crosstrac Hip Guide System from Smith & Nephew Endoscopy
This device is designed to help surgeons accurately and consistently create pathways to diagnose and repair hip joints during arthroscopic surgery. After the surgeon establishes the first portal under X-ray guidance and inserts an arthroscope, he can attach the Crosstrac Hip Guide to the scope and use it to establish secondary portals to the joint quickly and accurately without repeated attempts, says Smith & Nephew. $4,650, www.smith-nephew.com

Osteoraptor Anchor from Smith & Nephew Endoscopy
These anchors for hip and shoulder repair, available in 2.3mm and 2.9mm sizes, are the first of their kind to include polylactic acid hydroxyapatite. Smith & Nephew says studies have shown hydroxyapatite, a mineral found in bone, to strengthen the anchor and help promote a strong bond between the anchor and the surface of the bone. The smaller, 2.3mm anchors are specifically designed to help surgeons place anchors more precisely when working in confined joint spaces during labral repairs. $315, www.smith-nephew.com

MammoView from Solos Endoscopy
This new line of instruments for breast endoscopy lets physicians detect breast cancer earlier with minimally invasive ductoscopy. Using the MammoView, doctors can enter the breast through the nipple, navigate through the mammary ducts where most breast cancers originate and develop, and use irrigation and video technology to observe any abnormalities. The company says breast ductoscopy can detect pre-cancerous and cancerous cells about 5 years before a mammogram would. The MammoView system includes a reusable ductoscope ($1,150) and video coupler ($1,200), plus a disposable dilator set ($120), introducer ($125) and cytology retrieval kit ($165), www.solosendoscopy.com

Infinit Mesh (pictured) is designed to reduce chronic foreign body reaction and the risk of complications while providing long-term, comfortable repair of hernias and other soft-tissue deficiencies. The 100% monofilament PTFE that structures this large-pore surgical mesh does not degrade in the body over time like polypropylene and polyester are prone to do, says the manufacturer. Meanwhile, Gore's new Bio-A Fistula Plug is a 100% synthetic, bioabsorbable plug for fistula repair that consists of a bundle of hollow tubes capped with a circular disk designed to anchor the plug in place. www.gore.com
