Complete Annual Laser Safety Training
Perioperative and procedural teams who use lasers are invited to join AORN for a half-day, virtual live training to understand and implement evidence-based laser safety processes. This course meets annual team training requirements and provides foundational safety guidance to protect everyone in the room.
As safe — or as hazardous — as the users
Lasers are highly regulated, essential devices used in a wide variety of settings and in an expanding number of procedures including gynecologic, orthopedic, dermatologic, ophthalmologic, urologic, neurosurgical, cardiovascular, otolaryngologic, and cosmetic procedures, among others.
Treatment laser systems in surgery deliver laser radiation to alter tissue and are classified as Class IV or serious hazards. Managed improperly, they can severely damage eyes, burn skin, ignite fires, and create hazardous smoke byproducts. Regulatory and accreditation bodies consider laser safety the responsibility of each individual in the room – requiring everyone to have knowledge and skills to manage risks.
About This Course
In this half-day live course, you’ll learn about tissue interaction with lasers and critical safety precautions to avoid accidents that might harm the care team and your patients.
- Those who complete the course and post-test will earn 3.25 CH/AEU and a Certificate of Achievement
- Surgical Technologists can use AORN contact hours toward NCCT credits
