Ideas That Work: There’s Always Cause for Celebration

The administration at Heartland Surgery Center in Kearney, Neb., doesn’t wait around for standard holidays to let loose and have fun. “We celebrated national coffee day and had a local coffee shop deliver drinks,” says Tracy Hoeft-Hoffman, MBA, MSN, RN, CASC, the center’s administrator. “Whoever was scheduled to work that day selected a beverage of their choice.”

Staff at the surgery center have partied when a full moon falls on Friday the 13th, and during National ASC Month they took part in planned activities every day for a week, including chair massages, a catered lunch from a local food truck and a lollipop pull game, during which every staff member won a prize that ranged from $5 gift cards to gift certificates for massages. “With 56 employees who tackle 400 cases a month, we want to make sure our staff works hard and enjoys their jobs,” says Ms. Hoeft-Hoffman.
