Serving as a peer reviewer is a rewarding experience—one that can enhance your career and support other nurses' writing efforts. Whether you are an expert in clinical practice, management, education, research, or quality improvement, your participation on the Peer Review Panel will help Journal authors convey their message to improve perioperative nursing practice.

Peer Review Responsibilities

  • Provide substantive reviews of manuscripts in areas of content expertise using the ScholarOne Manuscripts system.
  • Complete the review within the specified time frame (typically 14 days).
  • Decline to review an article if you have a conflict of interest.
  • Be willing to participate annually in the judging of articles for the AORN Journal Writers Contest.

Peer Review Qualifications

To be considered for the peer review panel, member should be:

  • Content expert and practitioner in related areas of specialty practice or education
  • Knowledge of perioperative practice, trends, and issues
  • Interested in or experienced with publishing
  • Knowledgeable about trends that affect perioperative patient care in general and perioperative nursing in particular
  • Cognizant of new or improved technologies or practices affecting perioperative nursing care
  • Competent with online peer review system
