The Value of Fellowship

As a Fellow of AORN, (FAORN), you are recognized as a perioperative nurse leader who has made significant contributions to the perioperative profession and the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses. You have demonstrated a commitment to practice that goes beyond the local setting to make a sustainable impact on perioperative patient care across the country.

When FAORN stands with your nursing credentials, you are demonstrating that your education and training, professional qualifications, and contributions to the perioperative profession have passed a rigorous evaluation and are consistent with the high standards established by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses.

Eligibility

The Fellowship Selection Committee will consider applications that demonstrate the candidate:

  • Is an active member of AORN in good standing for at least five (5) consecutive years.
  • Holds an unrestricted and active license to practice registered nursing in their respective state.
  • Holds a master’s degree or higher.
  • Holds a nationally recognized current or emeritus status certification in perioperative nursing or a perioperative specialty.
  • Has a minimum of five (5) years of perioperative nursing experience.
  • Is sponsored, with a letter of recommendation, by a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and/or an AORN Award for Excellence winner.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the vision and values of AORN.
  • Has made significant contributions to the activities of the association and the advancement of perioperative nursing in the areas of clinical, administration, education and/or research.

How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Fellow of AORN (FAORN). The application period for 2021 awards closed July 31 and will reopen in the spring of 2021. You are welcome to review qualifications for acceptance in the meantime.

All applicants will be advised of their status in the fall of 2020, and approved applicants will be publicly recognized at the Global Surgical Conference & Expo 2021.

Qualifications

In addition to the online application form, two letters of recommendation, one by an AORN member who is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) or AORN Award for Excellence winner, and the second by a facility leader, must be submitted within your application.

Fees and Dues

Dues for AORN Fellowship include a non-refundable application fee of $350.00, paid at the time of application. Thereafter, designation is maintained for a fee of $250.00 every two years. Individuals may not use the FAORN designation and will not be fully recognized by AORN unless all dues are paid.
