CMS Begins Testing Bundled Payments

CMS recently announced a new initiative, the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement initiative, to test bundling payments for episodes of care. For participating provider
organizations, CMS will bundle payments for services Medicare beneficiaries receive during an episode of care. The initiative includes four models of
bundling payments which differ based on the types of health care providers and services included. On January 31, CMS announced 32 awardees who will begin
testing bundled payments for Model 1 for acute care hospital stays. Additionally, 100 participants partnering with over 400 provider organizations will begin
work on Phase 1 of Models 2, 3 and 4.
