Who is AORN?
AORN (Association of periOperative Nurses) is a non-profit membership association based in Denver, Colorado that represents the interests of more than 160,000 perioperative nurses. Our mission is to promote safety and optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures.
By providing clinical practice resources such as the evidence-based AORN Syntegrity Perioperative Documentation Solution, we help standardize the way procedures are scheduled, perioperative data is managed, and patients are treated.
The Origins of AORN Syntegrity
AORN Syntegrity is a result of perioperative professionals reaching out directly to AORN to help solve their documentation and scheduling challenges. Our evidence-based perioperative expertise and nation-wide network of hospitals made AORN the go-to source to create a product that could improve the lives of both perioperative staff and their patients.
We listened to the perioperative market and created the PNDS (Perioperative Nursing Data Set). From there, we built AORN Syntegrity to help standardize how the PNDS is implemented as well as provide a standardized procedure list and documentation. AORN Syntegrity was built, and continues to be managed, by a team of perioperative informatics specialists, who know what perioperative teams need to improve their documentation processes.
AORN Syntegrity is based on AORN’s Guidelines for Perioperative Practice and also addresses all phases of treatment, including preadmission testing/preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative. It was our goal to design a solution to make today’s complex perioperative environment more efficient, cost-effective, and simply more manageable.
