Arkansas Attempts to Improve RN Circulator Code

Publish Date: March 15, 2017

On March 6th Arkansas Rep. Kim Hammer introduced H2230, which would clarify that RN circulating nurses must be present for the duration of surgical procedures. The House Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee is scheduled to hear the bill on March 16, 2017. Danielle Glover, AORN Government Affairs Manager, is expected to testify in support of H2230 along with other perioperative registered nurses.

AORN maintains that every surgical patient deserves a perioperative registered nurse for the duration of any operative or other invasive procedure and actively promotes laws and regulations to ensure the supervisory presence of the professional RN in the perioperative setting. Over 30 states address the role of RN Circulators in operating rooms.

AORN Government Affairs will continue to advocate for this bill and provide updates on its progression. If you are interested in helping with this bill or want to learn how to become involved in legislative efforts in your state, please contact Danielle Glover at dglover@aorn.org.
