CA Smoke Evacuation Legislation Fails

Publish Date: December 21, 2017

A first of its kind, AB 2272, which would require California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health to develop a regulation requiring the evacuation of surgical smoke in health facilities, was passed out of the Assembly and the Senate and sent to the Governor. Unfortunately California Governor Jerry Brown vetoed the bill.

It is expected that a similar piece of legislation will be introduced during the 2017 legislative session. AORN will once again offer expertise to the bill sponsor and provide formal comments as needed. AORN will provide updates to members as the situation progresses.
