AORN Asks Georgia BON to Recognize Certifications

Publish Date: 8/21/2013

In May, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed a bill into law that will require applicants for RN license renewals to meet one of five continuing competency requirements. One of these requirements is the maintenance of certification or recertification by a national certifying body recognized by the Georgia Board of Nursing.

AORN has written a letter to the Board of Nursing requesting that the CNOR and CRNFA certifications be recognized by the Board. The CNOR certification is currently accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and the American Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC), and the CRNFA certification is currently accredited by the NCCA; therefore, AORN suggested the Board could also recognize all certifications meeting NCCA or ABSNC standards.

This law will go into effect with the 2016 license renewal cycle. AORN will continue to monitor the process and will report on any news.
