AORN's Ogg speaks at IOM meeting about N95 masks, PPE

Publish Date: 12/2/2011
AORN Perioperative Nursing Specialist Mary Ogg, MSN, RN, CNOR, participated in a Dec. 1 meeting in Washington, hosted by the Institute of Medicine Committee on Personal Protective Equipment for Workplace Safety and Health. During the meeting, Ogg presented information about AORN’s recommended practice for donning personal protective equipment (PPE), including a fit-tested N95 mask during surgical procedures when a laser is used to protect health care professionals from exposure to surgical smoke. This recommended practice is included in AORN’s current Recommended Practices for Laser Safety in Perioperative Practice Settings, which Ogg co-authored.
