Overview: Sharps injuries have decreased in non-surgical settings yet increased in surgical settings during the same time frame. Evidence-based practices to prevent sharps injuries and to reduce blood borne pathogen exposure to perioperative patients and personnel will be presented. This webinar will award one (1.0) CH after evaluation completion. Contact hour expires June 27, 2014.

Objectives: 

  1. Discuss the AORN evidence rating process.  
  2. Explain how perioperative personnel can implement evidence based practices to prevent sharps injuries. 
  3. Explain the difference between work practice controls and engineering controls in preventing sharps injuries
